The Sertoma meet was full of PR's and season best times, even if we did have to wait for endless heats of many of the events. For those who weren't there, there were over 100 boys in the 200m dash and 6 heats of the girls' 800... And that was just a taste of it.
In the distance races alone we had a great day! All 3 of our 2 milers ran their best times of the season! Mandy Williamson ran a PR of 11:34 in the 2 mile, cutting off 10 seconds! Rachel Torrey ran her best time of the year with a 12:06, missing the qualifying time by just over a second. Maggie Powell PR'd again this season with an outstanding time of 12:35! They also placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at the meet, racking in tons of points for Central!
There were lots of Central runners in the 800 and many ran fantastic times! Karly Ackley, who was co-Outstanding Athlete of the meet, started off the 800's with a fabulous PR and state qualifying time of 2:24! It was a nail biter to watch! Not only did she qualify, but she made up tons of ground by moving from 3rd to 1st within the last 250m of the race! In the next heat, Alexis Roehl pumped out a 2:31! The rest of the 800 runners (who were all within 10 seconds of each other but in 3 different heats) fought hard to try and beat our times! Megan Peck, Autumn Charette, Aislinn Hunter, Mikayla Weiss, and I all managed to make it under 3:00, a big accomplishment for new track runners like them!
The meet had many other highlights that I wish I had space to write about but this is a blog and not a 200 page novel. To sum it up, this was easily our best meet of the season this far, but it is only the beginning!

Sertoma was a great meet this year. The boys' team brought in over 30 PRs! The races were fast, and lots of state-qualifying runners came to the meet. It was great to have a big meet after the dual. It really made a great day for competition. Leif Larsen, one of our team's captains, had one of his best meets ever on Tuesday. He started out with the 4x200 relay, and as usual, he ran a solid time. After that, he went out and had 7 second PR in the mile, qualifying it for the first time with a 4:33. The 800 was next for him. He went out aggressively, leading the first lap. By the end of his race, he earned himself a time of 2:04, a huge PR for him. At the end of the meet, he ran a 54 second split in the 4x400, his fastest 400 ever by 2 seconds. To put that in perspective, a 2 second PR in the 400 is the same as an 8 second PR in the mile. That almost never happens, especially for a top runner.
I usually don't like to focus only on distance runners, but I feel that its necessary to mention Ryan Keogh's performance. Ryan was the only 2-miler Central had at Sertoma. Competing in any event in track by yourself is very hard. Ryan didn't let it get to him though.
Overall, this may have been Central's best meet yet. We had several people qualify events, and tons of PRs. Its crazy to see our team do so well, even with the wind we had! I really hope Central continues to compete this well for the rest of the season.
