After such a great 3 months of summer running, I'm not even surprised that our first week of official season has been a big success! On Monday we got some new faces, but already I feel like they've been part of the team forever. I can tell that this year's team will be especially tight-knit! Monday was hot, making the workout difficult for our less-hydrated athletes, but they'll be drinking water now! This year, we've shortened our warm-up from half an hour (or more) to fifteen minutes, which is going well. On Thursday, we did Run Bike Run, which is a speed workout at Lincoln Park on a course a bit longer than a mile. So many people had amazing times! Alexis Roehl almost qualified (keep in mind, this is on hilly grass and pavement without racing spikes!), her sister, Sophia, was running at the pace of our top 3 runner last year, and Kierstyn had absolutely impressive times for someone so new to running! Many others had similar successes.  For some, this week was more about pushing through. Maria was sick all week with a cold that seemed to get worse instead of better, but she showed up every day and worked her hardest, which made me proud to be her teammate. This year, I already see us as a threat to any team who stands in our way, and I can't wait to see how we grow and improve. Thanks for a great week!

-Maia Jackson, Senior, Captian

Monday August 14th was the start of the 2017 Cross Country season! It was a big day for some new runners, marking the very first day of being apart of a new team and new sport. We had some new faces that looked a little nervous but by Friday it seemed like everyone was smiling and having a good time! On Monday it was a hot start with some 80 degree weather that even tests some of the top runners, but we don't have to worry about that for long because as we all know, we do live in North Dakota! We had two speed workouts this week with one on Tuesday which was running 1000 meter repeats, we had some younger boys show off some of their speed and toughness. Then on Thursday we had run bike run at Lincoln Park. That is where you have a partner that runs a mile and a partner that bikes a mile, then you switch and keep doing the mile loop. It was a good test to see how hard some of the newer runners could push themselves. But most importantly after the first week everybody started to get into a routine of stretching before and after practice. Most fun of all is we got to learn how to ice bath to help keep the legs in shape and ready to roll!! I think we would call the first week of season a success, with many more to follow!
