Once again, our last week of practice has been a busy one. It began with team pictures in front of the school on Monday. It looked like everyone remembered to bring their uniforms which helped for the process to run smoothly. Then, after pictures, everyone ran down University for long run. Thankfully, the weather was nice which is always a plus. Next, on Tuesday, we started practice right away to beat the incoming rain. One group completed a hill workout while the other ran 800's. It was a good thing that we started early because we just barely finished went the rain started. On Wednesday, we went over the rest of the week's schedule. We also covered how the meet went the past weekend and congratulated 28 boys and girls for their PR's. After, we ran down Belmont and stopped at the dike for some hill sprints. It was amazing to see how much stronger everyone looked since the last time we did them. Thursday was a memorable day for everyone. The Hillsboro cross country team came all the way to Grand Forks to run 400's with us. Afterwards, we showed them our post-workout and shared some cookies that Maria brought. At one point there was a slight jamming of a door and many of the kids and both of the head coach got locks in the ice bath room but Teresa, our lovely custodian, saved the day. On Friday, our girl's varsity team traveled to Minneapolis for the Roy Griak Invitational. We stayed the night and made it to the meet the next morning just in time to the watch both division I college races. Our girls made a point to drink a lot of water after seeing the results of dehydration. Due to the concern for heat our race was move up to 12:40. The course and weather tried to work against us but we fought back and raced tough. As a result, we placed 12th, bettering our place of 15th last year. Meanwhile, the rest of the team ran in Grand Forks in preparation for the Milaca Mega Meet. At 4:45 am they left for Milaca and several hours later were ready to race in one of the biggest high school meets in the country(6200 registered runners). The weather wasn't ideal but there were still some impressive performances in all of the many races they ran.
