This last week has been an exciting one. It started off with a speed workout on Monday. Some of the younger kids went to University Park and got do Elmo Run while some of the older runners went to Riverside for 800 repeats. Although a couple people had a tough time they powered through and the workouts were a success overall. On Tuesday the team went on a normal run down Belmont and we all stopped to sprints up the sledding hill. The next day had beautiful running weather-- cool and cloudy. It was perfect for our long run which we completed on the four-mile loop. Thursday was when the week really started to get fun. The team ran to Riverside and we practiced pack running during our second speed workout of the week. After that, everyone gathered at the Roehl’s house for a team pasta feed where we hung out and each ate our weight in spaghetti. Then on Friday we had another normal run down University and afterwards everyone drove over to Lincoln. Once there, the boys played games like Magic while the girls made bracelets and anklets to wear to the first meet. Later that evening, a bunch of us met at the Berry’s house to watch McFarland, USA. Saturday was by far my favorite day. Everyone showed up early for the bus which was pretty impressive. On the way to Hillsboro we exchanged words of encouragement, snacks, and goofy toys through secret sister and undercover brother gifts. Upon arrival, we set up camp and walked the course. For many people on our team, it was their first cross country race and they did really well! I couldn’t be more proud of how our team competed and how strong everyone already looked. Just about everyone I asked said they had a good race and a lot of them have new personal records to prove it. This meet was a great way to kick off the season and set a really good tone. I can’t wait to see how the team grows over the next couple of months!
