Everyone returned to camp, did their run, had a lite lunch and got dressed up for a night out of Dave's Pizza and a movie. We took pictures of our Seniors, 7th graders, and complete group all dressed up. The team choose to go between "Minions", "Paper Town (Paper Towel)", or "Antman." Everyone went to bed early to get ready for the last day of running our long run around the lake on Friday.

The rain left Bemidji, but blustery winds of 45 mph arrived at the park Tuesday night and continued through Wednesday. The team had to cancel the volleyball tournament, due to the wind at the lakeside courts being too high. To fill their free time, the team played cards, Risk, Life, ladder ball, and Cube. Everyone had a great time. Because the wind kept several of the campers from getting a good night of sleep Coach Allan made a manditory one hour nap time after the lunch of sloppy joes.
In the afternoon the Sun finally came out in time for our speed workout, the "Noodle Run." The runners team up in groups of two and have a continuous relay from the campsite down to the lake and back. It was great to see everyone running hard and cheering their teammates on. After s'mores, the Tuesday night campfire discussion was the athletes talking about their personal weaknesses (what they need to work on to be a better runner). It was benifical for everyone to share their items with the group so their teammates know what they are working on and can help them improve in these areas. Tomorrow is one of the favorite days of the camping trip. In the morning the annual frisbee football tournament happens. One team will be crowned champions on Thursday and have those bragging rights for the next year. That night everyone will dress up, go into Bemidji for pizza and a movie!! Monday the team arrived to very hot, 88, and muggy weather in Bemidji State Park. Everyone was postive going into our hardest workout of the trip, the infamous "Bemidji Ballbusters." The killer workout is over a wooded half mile trail that includes two long steep hills. The runners break up into equal abliity groups and run a continuous cycle of two minutes hard and two minutes easy over the course. To reach the coveted "Ball Buster" status you must complete 12 hard runs. Our young group of 7th grade boys posted a great total of 5 hard runs. Several individuals broke into the top level of 12 two minute runs, but two boys, Swanny and Richie made 16! The top girls showed that they are ready for the upcoming season as 5 of them went the max level of 16 also. That amount covers about 7 miles easy/hard running on that trails!
Monday night we had our first camp fire talk and the topics were "what does team mean to you?" and "what made you start running cross country?" It was a great discussion and everyone shared some great thoughts. The rain that started Monday night and continued into Tuesday causing the team to alter it's plans. We moved our lip sync contest to Tuesday. After drying out a few wet tents, the lip sync contest was a huge sucess with Ieveryone having a blast. The two teams, that performed "Dude Looks Like a Lady" and "Beat it" were the big winners and earned a dozen doughnuts as their prize. Tomorrow is supposed to be dry and a little cooler so everyone is gearing up for the big volleyball tournament down by the lake! |
