Captains Crunch - Week 11

Practice this week has been a little different. Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to over half of our team on Monday as Coach revealed the top 13 on both the boys and girls side that had made it to State. There was a lot of anticipation, nerves, and excitement in the air. It was exciting to see people who have never been on the State team make it this year. It was also sad to see a lot of disappointed faces as others didn't hear their names called. The team is so close, we're like a family, so when one of us is sad, the whole team can feel it. Needless to say, practice that day was a mixture of happiness and sadness.
The week of practice has gone really well. We had a hard workout of goal pace 800's on Wednesday on the old Riverside loop (one of my favorite workout courses) and then first mile pace 400's on Friday at Cushman on the track. It was a strange feeling being back on the track during XC season but I loved it. The feel of running on it, the smell of the track, it brings back memories from track and just makes you feel fast.

Saturday is State and I know the whole team is anxious about it. We've got big goals, the boys and girls alike, but I know that all our training plus our determination will bring us to those goals!

Rachel Cox, Junior Captain

In comparison to the rest of the season this week was very calm to say the least. Being the week after EDC and two weeks before state, there were no meets on schedule. We started the week with a long run on Monday, and no doughnuts!  The week went on with our various activities like weights our daily aerobic runs with accelerators and our speed work. All in all a pretty quiet week to just go about our business preparing for the state meet this weekend. One bit of excitement came before practice one day when we were all having a team meeting in coaches room. We were just doing our thing and coach said he had a present for all of us. This got al of our attention. Coach pulls out a box and what happens to be in it, sleeves! I could not believe it our own customized team running sleeves. What a great gift for the team. Going into the final week of practice the boys team is finally looking close to 100% healthy. This is encouraging to all of us and will hopefully set us all up to run our best races thiscoming Saturday.
