Captains Blog - Week 10

It was a sad week for some of the seniors as we had to say goodbye to some of our younger runners who are'nt going to state.  But overall it was a very successful week.  It was nice not having to worry about a meet on Saturday! On Tuesday we had the last hard workout of the season as we did 800s and 200s at goal pace. Since everyone ran so well at EDC the goal pace for a lot of us got faster, so it was a challenge to hit our times, but still successful. On Thursday we had a fun speed workout, called the 3K persuit, basically the runner with the slowest overall average time started first ending with the fastest overall average time and in between each person coach did the math so theoretically everyone finished at the same time.  It didn't work exactly how we expected but it was pretty cool to see how close it actually was. This week is very important for us as we are preparing for the state meet on Saturday.

Brenna Bertsch Senior Captain

This has been a bittersweet week for many of the xc athletes. With EDC being the last race of the year for most of the team, Monday was sad as we said goodbye to our teammates. It has definitely been different without the whole team there! Never the less, this week was still full of workouts and was a nice recovery week getting us ready for the state meet. Monday was a long run, just to help us keep our endurance. Tuesday was the hardest speed workout of the week, as we did 200's and 800's at goal pace. This was more difficult because our goal pace was increased as so many people PR'ed at EDC!! Wednesday, Friday and Saturday were all normal runs, with donuts on Saturday!! On Thursday we had a fun new speed workout called the 3k pursuit run. Coach Allan figured out how far a part our 3k times were, and then started us out at different times, with the hope that we all would finish at the same time! This was fun because we got to chase the people in front of us, and got PR bars if we got faster in our 3k. While we were at practice, one of our captains, Rachel Torrey was touring Montana State in hopes of possibly running there!
We are looking forward to a great week getting ready for the state meet! Come and support us at Bjornson Public Golf Course in Valley City! The girls race starts at 11 am with the boys right after at 11:45!
